Masks Faces

Masks Faces

Mitya

2 March - 30 march 2024

‘The face is the part of the body that evokes our personal story. Our facial expression and emotion is controlled by various muscles that repeatedly create a new image of our face. The human sight is like a moving and constantly changing mask where each emotion transforms the face into a new sculpture.’

This work originated from the fascination with ethnic masks and shows the search for a continuous manipulation of expression and face. A lived-through experience with a layering of emotions arises from a repeated process of reshaping and shifting facial features.

MASKS FACES outlines a reinterpretation of being human and offers a glimpse into an imaginary creation of who we are or could be.
